Gestational Surrogacy Houston
If you are unable to carry a child yourself, then you may find that your goals can be met through gestational surrogacy. At our Houston-area fertility center, we have helped numerous couples and individuals realize their dreams of parenthood through a surrogate. Transferring your embryos or those of a donor into the surrogate allows a third party to carry your child to term, and the surrogate herself has no direct genetic link to the fetus.
If you have questions regarding gestational surrogacy, we encourage you to visit one of our Houston clinics today. We have offices throughout the greater metropolitan area, including Sugar Land and the Woodlands, to meet our patients' needs. To arrange a consultation, contact our practice today.
Gestational Surrogacy - How It Works
A gestational surrogate, or gestational carrier as they are commonly called, is a third party that carries the pregnancy. If you are considering having a child through a surrogate, the important thing to consider is that the carrier has no genetic link to the fetus. Through in vitro fertilization and ICSI, we can extract eggs from yourself (should you be the one providing the eggs) or a donor and fertilize them outside of the body. This fertilization can be done with your partner's sperm or that of a donor.
If you know of a surrogate or someone whom you would like to act as a surrogate, we can evaluate them and determine if they would be well-suited to carry your child. If you don't have a surrogate selected or your surrogate isn't a good match for medical or physical reasons, we work with numerous surrogacy agencies and can pair you with someone that you will trust. At the Houston Fertility Institute, we also work with gestational surrogacy lawyers to help ensure not only the smoothest experience possible, but that your legal rights are protected as well.
Indications for Gestational Surrogacy
Unfortunately, not all women are able to give birth. Below are some indications for the use of a gestational surrogate. If any of the below factors apply to you, we encourage you to consult with the experts at our Houston clinic regarding gestational surrogacy.
- Medical conditions preclude you from carrying a child due to potential health risks
- Significant injury or disease of the uterus
- No uterus
Of course, surrogacy is a viable option for men as well. If you decide gestational surrogacy is right for you, we can guide you through every step of the process and inform you of your options during your initial consultation. We want our patients to be able to make informed decisions regarding their health and their plans for creating a family, and we will educate you on all aspects of the treatment.
